Happy indeed to clinch a top ten spot in the 2007 Brides/WPJA Wedding Photo Competition!
hahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahah
cannot contain my glee!

Judges’ Comments: What would be a nice but fairly routine picture of the groom kissing the bride becomes a comical departure when a child gets down on all fours to find the best view of the action. Perfectly composed and captured.

Crossing Bridges Exhibition for the P.I.X - Photo Imaging X-change 2007

Delighted!

One of my pictures which I took in Hong Kong in 2005 when I joined Crossing Bridges was selected to be exhibited for P.I.X - Photo Imaging X-change 2007. P.I.X. is a conference specially designed for photography, cinematography and digital imaging professionals, as well as amateurs and enthusiasts. It will be held concurrently with Imaging Expo Singapore trade exhibition from 1-4 November 2007. Their website is P.I.X.

I will be one of the 7 local photographers whose work will be shown. Other exhibited works will from photographers from Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia. Hewlett Packard will be sponsoring the prints.

It has been a while since I catch up with the rest of the guys from Crossing Bridges, especially my hotel mates:- Richard, Sean and the other guy which I cannot remember the name but looking like the DJ Desmond Koh.=p I meant we did share this really really small bedroom.
I wonder how they are now...

Another photo which I like from my Hong Kong Series (2005) but this is not the picture selected for the exhibition. You got to visit P.I.X.(:P) and I heard that the print will be BIG! It will be 24 inch on the longest side from what I heard!

Exhibition on National Stadium

Exhibition on National Stadium

Venue: Tuckshop Cafe (21 Tanjong Pagar Road)
Launch: 8th August 2007 6.30pm
Period of Exhibition: 8th - 15th August 2007
Daily Hours: 12pm to 12am

Artist Statement - Edited by Kong Yen Ling

An empty shell, some would say, but to me, it is living flesh and blood.

These portraits are a tribute of my remembrance towards the National Stadium.

Throughout its lifetime, it had seen 18 Singapore's birthdays,

housed tens of thousands of joyous party goers,

and drenched up an infinite amount of the nation's hopes, disappointments, memories and history.

Against the tide of time, it had since wizened with age - its closure a symbol of its passing.

Yet, it feels vaguely awake, swirling in shallow breadths of a tingling nostalgia.

I can still feel its spirit.

Perhaps it has been interlaced with the piece of sky and the blanket of lights which it laid under,

drifting beneath the wisps of clouds,

peeking from behind the rays of light,

dancing among the specks of stars.

Without having to subscribe to the rites of ephemerality, it will certainly linger on,

outliving the mortality of its architecture.

My first solo exhibition! Do come by and support ya!

Mary Ellen Mark

I have included a series of personal work which I did in traditional black & white film for the highest quality in Black and White in my updated website.
It is called "Santuary of Innocence"
I created this series of work when I was attending a workshop in Oaxaca, Meixco last year under one of the best documentary photographer of our time:- Mary Ellen Mark. She was also voted to be the 25 most influential photographer in the world by Photo District News recently.
She has always been a big inflenuce of mine and I am very glad I made the long journey to Meixco by myself and without knowing a single word of spanish in 2006.

What I learnt from Mary Ellen in Oaxaca will be invaluable to me for the rest of my life.

"Santuary of Innocence" is a series of documentary work when I shot of an orpahange in Oaxaca, Mexico. I shall share more about it in my upcoming posts and my expericence learning under Mary Ellen.
Do visit my updated site A Photo Story
as well as:- Mary Ellen's

photography quote 1

I came across this quote some time back that was so simple, inspiring and so true.
:
All the technique in the world doesn’t compensate for the inability to notice.
-Elliott Erwitt

I have to admit that photographers should take the whizz of photoshop out of their pictures and focus on noticing.
I believe this is especially true for documentary wedding photography.

random tots

Why do we have 2 eyes, 2 ears and only 1 mouth?
Is it because eyes and ears are more important than mouth?

work

I meet a friend this morning on MSN Messanger.
He is currently enjoying some time off and he msn me at about 10am.
He said "morning"
He said "welcome to work"
I said ":|"
I said "i never work a single day of my life"
I said "cause i am doing photography"

I really enjoy what I am doing - "Making Pictures"

but I must admit that I really do detest the paperwork....

in praise of the small book

quite a few couples asked me why my wedding book is so small.
let me define the dimension of my wedding book first.
currently they come in 2 sizes:
1. 8 by 8 inches (approx)
2. 5 by 11 inches (approx)
"hmm, are they small?" i asked myself.
well, i would consider them to be a handy size.
"hmm, what do i mean by a handy size?"
well, i want to make the book handy enough for the bride to bring to office,
to best friend's place, to in-law's place and any other places.
I would most certainly like the bride to show her wedding book to share the moments and joy of her wedding to everyone and relive the memories.

happy CNY!

photography quote

I have always been thinking about a quote for my website for the longest time.

A few days back, I came acoss this unbelieveable quote by one of the most famous photographer of our time.
And I must admit I am very very very very very very very very inspired by it.

"All the technique in the world doesn’t compensate for the inability to notice." -Elliott Erwitt

UNBELIEVEABLE!!!

Finally it is up

FInally it is up.
I had always wanted to pen down my tots on wedding photography.
SInce it is the 21st century, I guess the blog is the way to go.
=p
